I’m Allan Clark, a programmer in Edinburgh. I co-founded and built Pakk Software, an e-commerce platform for small and medium-sized businesses, written in Elm on both the front end and the back end. Before that I spent several years as a researcher in formal modelling, and I’ve worked in Haskell, C, Java, Python and Go along the way. I’m available for consulting work, and Elm work in particular.

Elm development

Hands-on contract work on a new or existing Elm codebase. This can take the form of adding new features or refactoring the current code. If it is both usually the refactoring will be done first. It may also be that a test suite needs to be built or improved first. I have extensive experience in testing Elm applications.

Code review and architecture audit

I produce a document telling you where your source code is at the moment without making any changes though possibly highly recommending some. This is largely about evaluating where your technical debt is and what it would cost to address it. I’m happy to work in most languages for this but as you can see from my blog I have strong opinions about Elm and Python.

This is often the easiest way to start, it can be a short bounded piece of work and it tells us both whether a longer engagement could be fruitful.

How it works

Simple email me to start the conversation. Ideally send a short description of the problem and the languages/technologies involved. I will respond with a short note about whether I think I’m the right person for the job and if so what the next steps are.

How much it costs

For Elm work I charge a day rate of £1000. For any other consulting work I charge a day rate of £700.
